Lu Mourelle
Professional Biography
Lu Mourelle is a painter, sculptor, and digital artist based in Cascais, in the Lisbon region, where she lives and works. She is the founder and director of Lu Mourelle Art Gallery, while maintaining an independent artistic practice developed across painting, sculpture, and mixed media.
Before dedicating herself fully to visual arts, Lu Mourelle worked in the fashion industry — an experience that profoundly influenced the aesthetic foundations of her work. This background contributed to the development of a distinctive visual language centered on identity, emotion, and the representation of the feminine across multiple dimensions. In 2019, she was invited to participate in the XII Florence Biennale, marking an important milestone in her international trajectory.
Through ongoing research focused on the feminine figure and the deconstruction of form, Lu Mourelle’s work has expanded beyond conventional exhibition spaces, occupying both institutional venues and non-traditional art contexts. This artistic approach has led to her works being included in public and private collections across several countries.
Lu Mourelle began working with drawing and mixed-media painting at an early age, during her childhood in France, where she attended the art school run by her parents. After returning to Brazil and spending part of her youth in Rio de Janeiro, she pursued further academic and professional development in Europe.
